Topographic
internal waves
in the atmosphere and ocean
Cargèse

2010
Objectives of the
School
The purpose of the School is to gather
about 80 PhD and post-doctoral students from the atmospheric and
oceanic communities having an interest in topographically generated
gravity waves such as lee waves and the internal tide. While the School
is mainly intended to students, any scientist willing to participate is
also welcome to attend. Nonlinear
processes will be addressed, from small scale mixing to large scale
transport
in the ocean and in the atmosphere, involving climate issues. Lectures
and seminars will be given by senior scientists
having a wide recognition in their field. A large number of topics will
be
thus be addressed, providing a broad view on topographic internal waves
far beyond their linear generation processes.
We hope stimulating discussions will arise from the gathering of
students and lecturers during the ten days of the School in the very
pleasant place of Cargèse, in Corsica.
